Mr Kong: A Portrait
Mr Kong: A Portrait
"Barney?" "Yep? What? We doing something exciting? Huh, huh... well?" "Just thought I'd take some a few portrait shots in the garden!" "OK! Cool, cool. Sounds like fun. We goin outside now then? Huh? HUH?! "Yep, wait a sec, just got to get the camera ready... I'll just open the door for y-" "Squiirrreeeelllllssssss!!!" (Zooms down garden path, barking head off!) "Come back!" Woof, woo-woo-woof! Woof! (Assorted neighbourhood dogs joining in the squirrel bark) "Mum, mum... I told those squirrels mum! Did ya hear me?" "I think the whole neighbourhood heard that Barney. Now just sit for me to take a photo, please." "Wait, waaait a minute... I spy MR KONG!" "Yes, well, you left him out here earlier, just sit still for a mome-" "Take a picture of Mr Kong and me mum. Or just Mr Kong. Everyone on Flickr would love to see Mr. Kong cause he's awesome!!" "OK, OK..." Which is why I now have a portrait of Mr Kong, as posed by Barney. Not sure humans would want to see a portrait of a slobbery toy but Barney looks kinda cute too so.... About Mr Kong. Mr. Kong is dirty and old and scarred with lots of tiny tooth marks. Mr. Kong has been stalked, pounced on, shaken, chewed and generally abused more times than I can count. Through it all, Mr. Kong has acted with a bouncy kind of dignity and cheerfulness. Barney loves Mr. Kong. I mean, he really, really, really loves him. He's had other, smaller, puny kongs before but, after a few weeks of diligent chewing they've come undone at the seams - one end falling off and getting left in a patch of old leaves to be found months later acting as a home to a grumpy old spider. Only Mr. Kong, big, red, solid Mr. Kong has held himself together and happily withstood being bounced off the floor, thrown, tugged on, chomped on, chewed up and bounced again. He provides stalking practice and never fails to send Barney into a frenzy by bouncing in the most unpredictable fashion up the hallway.... He's usually to be found next to Barney although sometimes, Mr. Kong pulls a disappearing act - hiding naughtily under the sofa, or in a dark corner of the house, for a week or so - but Barney always finds him and they have a dizzily joyful reunion! Heart-warming to witness. It's sweet really, the bond between my pet and my pet's pet :)
Day 081 of 365
Day 081 of 365
Well, I spent most of the day exploring through the front yard and side yard. I guess I'll camp here for the night and make sure I have everything. Let's see... 1. My neighbor let me borrow his horse for a few days. Our neighbor doesn't have a name for his horse, so my son, Max, calls him "Spot" for some reason. I told him that this horse doesn't have a spot and that "Spot" is usually a dog name. But, anyway... 2. I have carrots and apples for Spot 3. Binoculars, to spy for rock monsters and other things. 4. Telescope, just in case there's some cool stars out at night. 5. I have mint gum in my shoulder bag. (Max says the shoulder bag is a purse.) 6. A special Indiana Jones whip to get Spot moving. 7. A backpack which holds my sleeping bag, a first aid kit, and lots of unhealthy snacks. 8. A scared face I can put on in case I meet up with some giant spiders. 9. A crossbow and extra arrows for hunting or defending myself against rock monsters or giant spiders. 10. And if the crossbow doesn't do me any good, I've got a lightsaber. 11. A starburst candy that will hopefully last me a couple days. 12. Max wants me to call him on my cell phone in case I see any dinosaurs. 13. A shovel...hmmm...I don't remember why I packed a shovel...maybe I'll find out later. 14. My Indiana Jones outfit. 15. My very important camera to take lots and lots of pictures with its awesome 2mm lens!! And...OH NO! I forgot to bring my night light! oh well...there's probably no outlets out here anyway... Well, tomorrow, I'll be in the back yard! Hmm...I don't even know if I have enough room to carry HALF of this stuff...
