DIY Boke kit
This isn't the least expensive option for doing boke, not by a long shot. I had first been simply cutting out construction paper lens caps and taping them onto my 50mm f1.8, but that got tiresome and honestly wasted lots of paper. So I bought a 55mm UV filter, slapped a little loop of scotch tape over the center, and spray painted the outside black. After some cleaning off of the clear spot, I have a lens cap with a little window on it. Now all I have to do is cut my boke into little square of construction paper and tape them over the hole. I can carry with me dozens of these little shapes inside the filter's original case and not have to worry about them getting mangled the way the larger, origami style boke caps I'd been making would. I got the filter at Ritz for $15, but you can find cheaper filters on-line. I already had the spray paint and construction paper- I guess I'd say there's no way you would end up spending more than $20 on this, and if you're smart or already have a lot of what you need you should be set for $10>Small project
My small project for Mark Ruwedel's advanced black and white project. These are scans of my 8x10 paper negatives. Just trying something new..and a bit cheaper then actual 8x10 film. The iso speed was 5 so I had to do each portrait with two 1200w/s strobes and one 400w/s strobe which barely got me at f/5.6 and 1/125. Paper negatives were pretty interesting because I didn't use any filters for these prints just straight light and they came out this contrasty. I might plan on doing more paper negatives and try cutting and pasting different negatives together to make one really interesting composition.
