Hotel Americana, Miami Beach, FL
Back of postcard reads: THE HOTEL OF THE AMERICAS AMERICANA Oceanfront at 97th Street - Bal Harbour, Miami Beach One of the world's most famous resort hotels... the magnificent Americana features the award-winning cuisine of the Gaucho Steak House, Dominion Coffee House, Bal Masque Supper Club and Carioca Lounge. An outdoor pool and all-weather enclosed pool are part of the delightful cabana and garden area. Designed by the great Morris Lapidus (additionally, the architect behind the Eden Roc and the Fontainebleau Hotels, also in Miami). Opened in 1956. Lapidus was largely ridiculed (and, at times, outright insulted) during the course of his career for his flamboyant sense of style. I think (as do others) that he was a genius... bringing glamour and glitz to everyday folks.
Exploring The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach, Florida
Today is our last day in Fort Lauderdale and Mark's actual birthday. We drove up to Palm Beach to meet Mark's childhood friend whom he hasn't seen in 25 years! It was a great reunion and we enjoyed Palm Beach and its famous hotel The Breakers. We then drove back down to Ft. Lauderdale and hung out by the pool and then went to happy hour at Alibi and grabbed dinner afterward and called it a night! Sun, Jan 21, 2007
