14 April 1973 is the most notable date in the history of Walton & Hersham Football Club.  Having made it to the semi-finals twice before, in 1952 and 1953, the Swans made their one and only Wembley appearance in front of 41,000 spectators in the final of the FA Amateur Cup.  They brought the Cup home to Stompond Lane after beating Slough Town 1-0 with a late goal.

Ticket prices for the big game ranged from £2 in the posh seats to 40p for standing.  The Official Programme cost 10p.

A full marching band entertained the 41,000 spectators before the match and at half time.

Walton achived the feat of reaching the final without conceding a goal in any of the previous rounds.  In the final they maintained that record, winning by a single goal scored by Roger Connell with just three minutes remaining.

Several of the Walton players had represented or went on to represent the England Amateur side.
