Engine: D70s + Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 Location:The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley. Kuala Lumpur Info : Maria and Uxia Dominguez have come a long way in the textiles trade. They first worked at Sociedad Textil Lonia, co-founded by their father. But in early 2005 they decided to start out on their own and created bimba & lola. The company – which designs and sells apparel and accessories at its own shops – has a playful name evoking a fresh, feminine style. Uxia’s love of dogs led to the greyhound silhouette, an expression of the brand’s dynamic elegance. Bimba & Lola are focusing their 2008 growth on France. The women’s fashions and accessories brand is to open four boutiques in Paris in the next few months in choice shopping locations. Two of the shops will be in the quartier of Saint-Germain, a third in Le Marais and a fourth in Rue Saint-Honore, in premises covering 100 sq. m. Once these first four shops have opened, Bimba & Lola plans to expand all over the French capital through franchise-run stores. In the course of 2008, it has further plans to enter China and Malaysia with the help of local partners.

This panel was a printing block for one of Thompson's silk designs, if memory serves... An American military intelligence officer turned businessman, Jim Thompson settled in Thailand and is credited with turning the Thai silk industry into a major business. Mysteriously, he disappeared in the jungles of Malaysia in the 60s, but his home is now open to visitors in Bangkok -- and is run like a well oiled machine. Beautiful and impressive -- and that's even before you even get into the house, which was built largely in traditional Thai fashion, with a few Western accommodations. along the course of my tour, i chatted with a lady who was in town on business from DC -- so we ended up taking photos of the flowers together, and then grabbing a snack at the Jim Thompson Cafe on site. very nice to have a traveling companion for the day!
