Fiat 126 Project Car
Fiat 126 Project Car
Taken with Nokia E72. Off and on over the last two years I've been working on this little Fiat. This car is actually an FSM Niki that I've been slowly transforming into a Fiat 126. The engine was degreased and cleaned up, cowling was powder coated red, new cam cover, new thermostat, new exhaust system, new nuts and bolts where possible, starter motor overhauled, new grounding strap, new air intake hose, replaced RHS driveshaft coupling, reconditioned carby, new engine mount, new gearbox mounts, oil change, new air filter, new plugs and probably some more stuff im forgetting. Other work includes new clear tail light lenses, clear front indicator lenses, chrome bumpers front and rear, new carpet, custom hand stitched door cards, custom rear parcel shelf. I also have new chrome bullet mirrors that will be mounted on the bonnet, rather than the doors, for a retro touch. I also have all new door and window handles, nice chrome ones to match the new black door cards. Wheels will be 14x5" steel wheels, powder coated red like the engine, with a chrome outter dress trim and chrome bolts. Inside ive added a few small touches like a new gear boot, gear knob, 4 channel amp, 6x9 3way speakers on rear parcel shelf, 4" 2ways in doors and a mech free digital only head unit, custom fitted under the shelf / dash above the passengers feet. I installed keyless entry into the doors which is a bit of a laugh. Combined with all the other extras, it probably robs the car of a quarter of its power :-) The Yoshimura motorbike muffler will be fitted to the car, but im still undecided on how to mount it. Its quite long and if mounted in the usual place, it would poke out the back too far and look a bit silly. Mounting it on an angle helps, so it comes out towards the middle of the car, but its still not ideal. Im considering the idea of mounting it parallel with the rear bumper, but over further to the left side. Im open to suggestions. Future modifications will involve lowering the car and cleaning up the body work, by removing the plastic mouldings along the sides and filling the holes. Even further down the track, i would love to replace the front leaf spring with a new wishbone coilover setup, swap the engine for a Nissan CG13 Micra engine, with a front mount radiator, replace the dash cluster with an aftermarket motorbike style unit, and do a disc brake upgrade.
