Thunderbird 390 Special V-8
The Thunderbird 390 Special V-8 offered with a four-venturi carburetion system developed up to 300 horsepower. This engine gives excellent premium performance on premium grade fuel with extra reserve power for agile maneuvering in traffic as well as quick "call-on" output for effortless, sustained road speeds.
Regular Ford service saving features are included plus a new hot idle compensator improvement for more efficient operation. Another added feature is a new specially designed magnet to help hold the choke plate cloded for quicker cold weather starting.
Thunderbird 390 Sports V-8
The Thunderbird 390 SPorts V-8 available on Thunderbird only is equipped with three two-venturi carburetors for top performance. It delivers up to 340 horsepower on premium-grade fuel.
As with the Special V-8, the oil change and Full-Flow filter replacement interval is at 6,000 miles; fuel filter replacement. Other features contributing to the Sports V-8 dependability are the water-warmed carburetor mounting flange, free-turning intake and exhaust valves, self-adjusting hydraulic valve lifters, deep block construction, 190* thermostat, and positive crankcase emission system.
