"1956 – Under the leadership of Wally Pond, five individual townships – Mission San Jose, Centerville, Niles, Irvington, and Warm Springs - came together to form our fair City of Fremont."

1956 by Scyma Designs captures the essence of Fremont, CA. The design offers aspects of diversity, regional context and emphasizes the year Fremont was established.
Tessellated, hand-painted, “F’s” create a movement throughout the box surface, highlighting geometries through primary color schemes to spotlight the lone year in which Fremont was incorporated to the State of California. The slight rotation of the “F’s” mirror the direction of the Hayward fault line running through the Fremont and greater Bay Area.
The goal of this piece is to bring awareness to the unique aspects of Fremont, CA. The City is one of the most diverse in the country, and the second most populous in Alameda County. The work also takes a stand on becoming a more resilient Fremont, as a community, in the face of a large-scale earthquake. 1956 is also an anchor artwork for the new Urban Plan (2030) in Fremont, changing the fabric of our beautiful City and bringing the variety of cultures together in a new walkable, bikable, and vibrant urban landscape.
