Coptic Cross Necklace
Coptic Cross Necklace
The cross in this necklace looks Celtic, but it is actually a Coptic Cross. Coptic crosses have been made in Africa for centuries, and are usually made from a silver/nickel alloy (usually melted down silver coins). The beads are iolite and carnelian. Plus I have thrown in some Hill Tribe Silver beads because they really seemed to fit in with the overall feel of the necklace. I couldn't find a clasp that I liked, so I designed a sterling silver one that I felt coordinates with the overall ethnic tone of this necklace. The necklace is approximately 17 inches in length. The Coptic Cross is 1 1/2 inches long. Available in my online store. Check my profile for the link.
Celtic Cross
Celtic Cross
A Celtic cross (Irish: cros Cheilteach),is a symbol that combines a cross with a ring surrounding the intersection. In the Celtic Christian world it was combined with the Christian cross and this design was often used for high crosses – a free-standing cross made of stone and often richly decorated. With the Celtic Revival the shape, usually decorated with interlace and other motifs from Insular art, became popular for funerary monuments and other uses, and has remained so, spreading well beyond the British Isles.
