BRING ME MY LUNCH! NOW!
BRING ME MY LUNCH! NOW!
What! Whadda Ya Mean That There Is No Feeding Until 2PM? Isha and Satu the sister and brother nearly 2yo Sumatran tigers are not impressed when they hear the announcement that the 11AM Tiger Talk doesn't involve feeding! See, these cats are multi-lingual - they understand Australian english announcements on the PA With that, Isha and Satu prowled and growled around the front of the enclosure - paying particular interest in the small children in strollers. "Meals on wheels" or "fast food" as the cheeky Keeper described the youngster as.... Fortunately he meant it as a joke! Satu, the male cub will soon grow to be about 25% larger than his sister Isha, and with the increased muscle have a distinct advantage. Most of the time, brother Satu and sister Isha are affectionate siblings, but they do have their fights, which are getting more violent as they grow up. Isha and Satu, the two precious surviving Sumatran tiger cubs, now 23 months of age will only be with us for a short time. They will be sent to other Zoos to make sure that genetic variety is maintained as much as possible. Sumatran tigers are critically endangered in the wild with perhaps only a few hundred individuals left. My trips to Melb Zoo are incomplete without a visit to the Sumatran tigers. Generally during the middle of the day, the two cubs, Isha and Satu are on display. Overnight, Ramalon, the adult male, and father of the cubs is on display, and in the early morning it is the turn of Binjai, the mother of the cubs. Tigers are solitary cats, except for mothers with young cubs. Isha and Satu are now both 23 months old, and old enough for Binjai to reject them, and so she has about 5 months ago.
