Thanks for allowing us to use your home.” June 2009 – Gainesville, FL ”Had a wonderful vacation. Every morning we hiked a two mile loop around English Ridge. What a wonderful visit! So glad we could bring our dog.” March 2009 – Lawrenceville, GA ”We loved every minute! Even getting snowed in—March certainly came in like a lion this year—provided an adventure.” February 2009 – Gilbert, SC ”From the wonderful family fun snow tubing and skiing, to the chance meeting with a herd of deer on the nature trail and the unexpected wintry snow on the last morning of our trip, everything was incredible. Your cabin provided us with every comfort needed or desired. Thanks so much for sharing it!”
Remnants of my Hot Wheels collection 1/4
A couple of months ago, I fished out about 24 Hot Wheels from a box containing items from my youngest brother's old bedroom. As far as I've been able to find, these 24 Hot Wheels are all that remain of our childhood Hot Wheels collection, which used to number at least 4 times as much (or at least 5 times as much, if you count all of the Hot Wheels that R.B., a kid who lived across the street, stole from us). I know that there were a lot more vintage Hot Wheels in a plastic bag that was somewhere in my old closet in the house from which we moved in 2004, but that has never surfaced, and I've done a fairly thorough search of all bags, boxes, and containers that would likely contain Hot Wheels. Most of these cars would likely be worth only a few cents on the collectors' market, because these are Hot Wheels that were actually played with by children, and most of them have a lot of scratches, chipped paint, or rubbed-off details. I think the best ones I have, excluding ones I've bought recently as an adult (which aren't in this photo set), might be classified as being in "good" condition, but, more likely, they would just be "fair"... nothing close to "mint" or even "near mint". Some of these actually belonged to my brother, but he's in Vancouver now (while I'm in Ottawa), and I doubt he'd complain that I've claimed ownership over them. Back row (from left to right): Mercedes-Benz 540K (Hot Wheels 20th Anniversary commemorative edition from 1988), some kind of "funny car" with Screamin' written on the side, a 1956 Ford pick-up truck, "Flat-Out 447" (a tricked-out Oldsmobile 447), and a Pontiac J2000 (and, behind that one, there's a Pontiac Fiero and a white Ferrari Testarossa, but those are featured in a different photo, I just didn't frame them out properly). Front: a Dodge Rampage with special rubber tires emblazened with the Goodyear logo.
