The elegant geometry of the Baume & Mercier Women's Riviera Mini Diamond Watch is enhanced by its slim, feminine dimensions, two-tone design, and diamond-accented dial. Constructed with an 18-karat-gold-and-stainless-steel case, the watch includes a dodecagonal diamond-and-18-karat-gold bezel, and an 18-karat-gold-and-stainless-steel link bracelet secured with a simple deployment clasp. A scratch-resistant-sapphire window shields the mother-of-pearl dial, which features diamond hour markers with golden Roman numerals at three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock. Slim black minute indexes and golden watch hands complete the look. In addition, this Swiss-quartz-movement timepiece is water resistant to 165 feet (50 M).
In 1973 the Riviera revolutionized the aesthetic watch-making characteristics by being equipped with a dodecagonal case--12 sides for 12 hours, or the geometric expression of a clever dose of innovation, classicism and creativity. Today a highly contemporary design that highlights the pure lines of this legendary watch, indissociable from Baume & Mercier's rich history.
Omega Chronograph Ca. 1944
Here's what I know about this watch... OMEGA 2-register Mechanical Chronograph/Chronometer 1944-45 18K (solid) gold Black face, roman numerals at 12 and 6. 35mm x 42 mm. Movement # 10’388’929 1944-1945 (movement numbers began at 11’000’000 in 1946). Plastic glass, oval pushers, sharp lugs. Minute counter at 3 o'clock and running seconds at 9 o'clock. Keeps excellent time (24 hour time loss 0:00:05). All functions work crisply and properly. Can anyone tell me more about it? I've looked at hundreds of these watches, but I've never seen this model with a black face. Is it as rare as it appears? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.Profound Gemini Tendencies
I'm a Gemini. I openly admit it. I adore fairy tales by Enid Blyton, and books by Kellerman and Patterson fascinate me beyond words. I love the color black but abhor the idea of pairing it with white, so passe. I only watch Disney movies, musicals and films with happy endings, and yet cannot bear to miss a single second of the Crime & Investigation Channel. I'm Asian but I very much prefer potatoes over rice. Enough said. This necklace is to fulfill all my different personas. The pendants can be worn together, on their own or the chain in its own, perhaps layered with other necklaces in your stash!

Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. The gear train then transmits the power to the escapement, which distributes the impulses, turning the balance wheel. The balance wheel is the time regulating organ of a mechanical watch, which vibrates on a spiral hairspring. Lengthening or shortening the balance spring makes the balance wheel go faster or slower to advance or retard the watch. The travel of the balance wheel from one extreme to the other and back again is called oscillation. Lastly, automatic movements come in different types, including movements that are Swiss-made, Japanese-made, and more.
Also referred to as self-winding, watches with automatic movements utilize kinetic energy, the swinging of your arm, to provide energy to an oscillating rotor to keep the watch ticking. They're considered more satisfying to watch collectors (horologists) because of the engineering artistry that goes into the hundreds of parts that make up the movement. If you do not wear an automatic watch consistently (for about 8 to 12 hours a day), you can keep the watch powered with a watch winder (a great gift for collectors).
