- Alloy wheels (incorrectly known as rims) are automobile (car, motorcycle and truck) wheels which are made from an alloy of aluminium or magnesium (or sometimes a mixture of both). They are typically lighter for the same strength and provide better heat conduction and improved cosmetic appearance.
- (Alloy Wheels) A generic term used to describe any non-steel road wheel. The most common alloy wheels are cast aluminum. Technically, an alloy is a mixture of two or more metals. These wheels are known for their light weight and strength.

Aprilia RS125 - SBK Replica (2003)
My first motorbike, now lay in the shed after seizing and spitting me off at 85mph on a bend. De-restricted it'd do a true (gps) 97mph, 0-60 in under 7 seconds with probably around 26bhp at the rear wheel (33 at the crank allegedly). I got away with a nasty open wound on my hip, abrasions and scarring on my left arm, a badly bruised right knee, bloody toe, stiff shoulder and a headache. For my troubles I got a tetanus jab and the wound on my hip 'debrided' for half an hour with a nylon brush - not fun. Thankfully I was wearing my armoured leather jacket, full face helmet and kevlar lined denim 'Hood jeans'. The bike's now got a ruined left fairing, scuffed tank, bent gear lever and a hole in the piston.
So There I was... Driving along between Grangeville and Winchester. I had just passed a pokey RV and was moving along at a comfortable 65mph (according to the speedo, the GPS claims 68). I note that the steering seems a little light, but chalk it up to the concrete road. I shouldn't have. A half-mile or so later, BAM and I think I'm on three tires and a wheel, that is until I see the 4th wheel bouncing along next to me before it jumps over a gaurdrail and disappears. This is what happens to alloy wheels when they go off on their own for 300 feet.
