Refrigerator Cars, Stock Cars and Tank Cars of the D&RGW (Narrow Gauge Pictorial, IV (4))
Vol IV of the Narrow Gauge Pictorial contains photographs of the narrow gauge stock cars, refrigerator cars, and tank cars of the D&RGW, completing the freight car series begun in Vol III. Drawings for the 30ft and 40ft reefers, 30 and 40ft stock cars, and two types of tank cars are included to provide details and dimensions for modelers and historians. While this volume is not an exhaustive study of the cars it does contain photographs of their major lettering and detail variations. Also included is a reprint of an article from a 1925 railroad trade magazine that describes the construction details of the D&RGW 40ft reefers.

In my house, like many houses, we have pets. I have described it, humorously, as 'more pets than you have pairs of underwear.' Depending on your hygiene, that could be true. One of my favorites is a kitty who had my heart from the Christmas day in 1999 when I adopted her without asking my mom. Lately, Itty Bitty, who hasn't been anything of the sort for the last seven years, has been living on top of the fridge. I think my mother put her up to it, but she's really having a blast up there. Being born feral, and spending her first six months starving in an abandoned barn rather curtailed Itty Bitty's social skills. It wasn't particularly good for her health, either. She weighed 3 ounces at six months old when I brought her home. The vet refused to operate on her missing eye to close the socket for almost two months. Now, she's considerably heavier. She has spent most of her time with us (eight years now!) avoiding everyone and hiding out on or under the porch. She has had a soft spot for me, as someone who brought food when she was young and impressionable, but most people freak her out hardcore. So the refrigerator troll step is a big one. She has to come through the house, past all of the dogs, and she has made friends with the people. Not cuddly friends, but she sits on the fridge and trills (not meows) at us until we give her 'treats'. Her treats are just cat food, but she loves them, and she gets extraordinarily animated about them. It brightens my day every time I see her happy. Itty Bitty didn't get the right kittenhood, and she is still pretty mentally damaged by that. So her life can be narrow, but at least it's narrow, warm, and full of treats. Hooray for my kitten.
