Family farm - Eastern Washington
Family farm - Eastern Washington
A grain silo and family farm are silhouetted in the very last light of July 8th, 2009. My last photograph of a fun road trip. Taken from highway 124. Returning home from a camp out and back country road drive in the area of: Weippe Prairie; Orogrande Creek; North Fork Clearwater; Kelly Creek; Moose Creek; Black Canyon; and out to towns again via Beaver Creek - - we made our way back to our home in Eastern Washington. The fading light along highways 12 & 124 between Patah and Eureka offered some wonderful photo opportunities of the Palouse Hills and the family farms, along these highways. For those of you who like detail and the "story" with your photo viewing, as is my habit, I have written up a "trip report". The trip narrative can be viewed by opening the photo set and reading it there (NF Clearwater River July 2009),

The way we were ..... I unearthed this priceless 1949 Spring & Summer edition of Simpson's Department store catalogue. I'll post a few images from time to time. Comments and suggestions welcome please. Note to Cindy: Now you can see what your Mom was wearing. Back story: It's important to remember that rural (and some city) people looked to Canada's two main department store catalogues (Simpson's and Eatons) for fashion guides and stuff for the home and farm. This was their form of on-line shopping, which meant rotary-dial telephones and snail-mail or railway freight delivery - how cool was that? And credit? A new post-war phenomenon.
