The Candlestick
The Candlestick
The Cluedo (UK) and Clue (US) candlestick has undergone a few design changes through the years as the victim's similarly evolving guests simply couldn't be expected to commit murder with last decade's model. The original 1949 Cluedo candlestick, perhaps being the rarest of them all is by far the largest and weightiest of the lot. However, due to its substandard post war composition, the delicate candlestick was most likely to break before it could do much damage to the victim. And considering its extremely high lead content, would most likely poison him first. As a result few can be found in good enough condition to use today. Though this design lasted less than one year in the UK, it survived in a slighlty smaller and better made variation in the French and later German editions until 1974. Unfortunately for the Briitish, as a result the candlestick token did not again match the depiction on the playing card for over 46 years. The original 1949 Clue candlestick has not changed design in over 65 years, albeit it has shrunk steadily from being one of the largest of the US weapons, to being one of the smallest. The 1949 candlestick is pictured, followed by the smaller 1972 version. Cluedo finally switched to the US design in 1996. The currently produced candlestick for the reinvention game "Discover the Secrets", is the smallest ever included in a standard edition. However, it is only one of four original weapons to survive into the new expanded 9 weapons edition, and remains the oldest surviving Clue or Cluedo design, followed by the plastic rope. All other classic editions currently produced contain one similar to the mid-sized 1972 version. The 1950 Cluedo candlestick was smaller and dull by comparison to its predecessor, but it was far more durable, and just as deadly. The high lead content in this and its predecessor make them unsafe to use. In 1965 Cluedo updated the candlestick to a much more interesting and detailed design, which eventually ended its life in gleaming gold-tone ... but what a way to go! 40 years after it appeared, Clue finally added a variation to the game with the introduction of the Master Detective edition (MD). Not only were there more weapons, but they were bigger and heavier as well. This design would also be a part of the 50th Anniversary edition, Passport to Murder, both in pewter, and Super Cluedo again in aged bronze. Finally, the last new design to grace the game was fittingly clad in 14K gold, from the short-lived Franklin Mint edition released in 1996 – albeit the most fragile of the lot.

THE SILVA DI FANTASIA Necklace by ECLETTICA view 02
"Fairy damsels met in forest wide By knights of Logres, or of Lyones" This excerpt taken from 17th century English poet John Milton's Paradise Regained (published in 1671) perfectly describes my sentiments for the necklace you now behold. Silva dei Fantasie (or Forest of Fantasies) is my interpretation of a place of magic and enchantment. Wherein danger and excitement ride side by side. Wondrous things happen in abundance. And wherein if you blink, you just might miss a rare sighting of the fae folk. SILVA DEI FANTASIE looks and feels far more beautiful than I could ever hope to capture with my camera. It exquisitely combines defined lines with that air of sublime fragility that will, I promise, touch your soul. My pictures only provide glimpses into the allure of this dazzling necklace. And so you have it, Sheela's SILVA DEI FANTASIE. My Forest of Fantasies is a composition of the following elements:- >> 65mm POLISHED LABRADORITE FOCAL >> RARE AAA Heliodor (Yellow Beryl) >> GEM GRADE Pyrite >> GEM GRADE Kyanite >> AAA Polished Chrysoberyl (Moss Green) >> Mystic Hessonite >> Mystic Labradorite >> Mystic Smokey Quartz >> Mystic Lemon Topaz >> AAA Blue Flash Labradorite By virtue of that nifty adjustable Lobster Claw Clasp, SILVA DEI FANTASIE extends from 21" to 23.5" without so much as a quick flick of your fingers. Her pendant portion measures around 3.5" in its entirety. All wires and chains are 14K Yellow Gold Filled. { ALL RIGHTS RESERVED } Designs, Literature & Imagery ©2007-2010 Eclettica The Atelier™ and Sheela Goh™
