Vintage Armstrong Montina Vinyl Asbestos Sheet Flooring Samples
Vintage Armstrong Montina Vinyl Asbestos Sheet Flooring Samples
A vintage, labeled set of vinyl asbestos sheet flooring samples. Each 4"x4" sample piece is imprinted on its reverse-side with manufacturer's information indicating made by Armstrong Cork Company, "Montina" pattern #86700-series with vinyl "Corlon" and a "Hydrocord" backing. A little additional research revealed that this resilient sheet floor material (not "Linoleum") was introduced around 1961. The "Hydrocord" backing layer contains asbestos and is reportedly a composite with latex and other ingredients. The soft, paper-like backing is similar to a compressed felt material, susceptible to damage and can become friable, especially during renovation removal and remodeling activities.
