"BCA Interview with her Grandma" (Director's cut) by mimitalks, married w/children
(Psssst! There's more footage in comments!) It is via phone because my mom lived out of town, and we didn't have time to visit her before the project was due. I think what I am able to show here is that a 3rd grader got awakened to "awareness" of the devastating disease of Breast Cancer by her experience in talking with those who were touched deeply by it. ------------------------------------------------------- I realized last night that I couldn't easily lay my hands on the Reflection project that I've been sharing about - that she did 5 October's ago. Digging through my CD's and DVD's that have landed in Patrick's closet until a better place can be found, I found some BCA Quilt files and one disk marked "Our Breast Cancer Edit". Thinking it was the tape we had turned in for the Reflections project, I hopefully viewed it. I found it was not that - but one better. The original, uncut footage and interviews converted for DVD viewing, and the interview with my mom - a Breast Cancer survivor - was among them! Problem. I didn't have a way to get it into format for viewing here on Flickr! You see, it didn't make the cut for the project. We had to limit it to 5 minutes for submission and went instead with the person who had the hardest time - she had a partial mastecomy, we were able to interview her in person and we thought her interview was the one that would have the most impact. But I digress, I didn't have a way to convert. I remembered before Lynn re-loaded my computer - changing to Windows 2007 - that I had a Freemake Video Converter. I found it and re-loaded it in. It did VOB's to .avi's (what mine was), but for some reason wouldn't read past the first interview (the one I can't show 'cause it isn't family). Finally, after trial and some error, I found a program that would convert it all (it played on the TV just fine so wasn't corrupted - I think it had something to do with the size of it), but stuck the company logo on there somewhere because it was an unauthorized version. I tried to mask it with adding slides and pulling the voice only out, but my newly converted .avi wasn't having any. And since it was a free download and I didn't want to pay for a year's subscription just for this, I just left it on. So...it as you see. I had to cut it, too. There was the place where she told her grandma to speak up (so cute), and the one where Grandma's still talking - asking her if she heard her answer - when Erin just gets up, cuts her off and on off-camera prompting from me finally says thank you to Grandma. We had to dub that one in, 'cause I think she had already turned off the camera at that point! My mom goes into a little more detail on seeing the doctor and making her decisions, but it was going over the 1:30 limit here on Flickr, and I had to do a director's cut - leaving some of the best scenes on the cutting room floor!
