  • Adorn, cover, or wrap (someone or something) loosely with folds of cloth
  • (drape) curtain: hanging cloth used as a blind (especially for a window)
  • (drape) the manner in which fabric hangs or falls; "she adjusted the drape of her skirt"
  • Arrange (cloth or clothing) loosely or casually on or around something
  • Let (oneself or a part of one's body) rest somewhere in a casual or relaxed way
  • (drape) arrange in a particular way; "drape a cloth"

draped urn
draped urn
The draped urn is said to connote death, often of an older person. The cloth symbolizes the guarding of the ashes. It is also believed to mean that the soul has departed the body for its trip to heaven. Others say that the drape simply means the partition between life and death. Hmm ... it reminds me of the veil in Harry Potter, where Sirius Black fell backwards into his death. Interesting.
Draping - Front View
Draping - Front View
Draping assignment from high school. Currently, the dress is in pieces since I decided to hand sew all the seams, brilliant idea, eh =) The dress is made of scrap fabric... the circle one is remnant from the large circular hoop skirt which can be seen by browsing through my Fashion Set.
