Welcome to the home page for the 10 Parishes PhotoMarathon 2017 run by Vivienne Knighton on behalf of the 10 Parishes Festival committee

A photomarathon is a photography competition unlike any other. It’s more of a photographic adventure, really – challenging entrants to take a set number of photos on a set of topics in a set number of hours within a set place. In this case, it's eight photos in eight hours inspired by topics that’ll be announced on the day in Wiveliscombe.

Unlike actual marathons, there’s no need to be able to run, or even walk, fast. All you need is any kind of digital camera or smartphone, a keen eye, and a decent amount of curiosity. Topics will be open to interpretation, and the panel of judges will pick winners based on creativity, spontaneity, inventiveness and humour, rather than technical knowhow.

Photo marathons have proved popular across Europe, with regular events in Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, the Czech Republic, France and Russia as well global event in Vancouver, Cape Town and Toronto. The first Photo marathon was held in Cardiff in the summer of 2004 when 120 people took up the challenge, the entries had to be limited to 400 for future events and places were filled in a matter of days.

Sign up now to take part in the 10 Parishes Photo Marathon on Sunday the 10th September 2017. All you need is a camera or smart phone and some creative inspiration. The entry fee is £5 per entrant (£2 juniors).
