trails of the unexpected
trails of the unexpected
I actually managed to find time to get out with the camera last night to take advantage of one of the many clear nights we've had recently. When I left the house I hadn't intended on this location or this shot but when I arrived at my intended location there was a car parked up with somebody waiting in it.......for what I have no idea as it was in the middle of nowhere. Anyway I thought it best to carry on further out into the countryside to try and get away from Southend's light pollution and to try my luck and find a new location/subject. After a bit of driving I came across my unexpected destination - an entrance to a farmers field - which allowed me to park up off the road and set up camera....and opposite was a dead tree. Perfect subject as I've been wanting to shoot this arrangement for a while. I found Polaris in the night sky and set the camera up with it in the frame and set the camera up to shoot a series of 30sec exposures....fired off some test shots which looked good and then set the camera doing it's thing. During a couple of shots out of the 105 that I took some cars went past. I thought at the time this may ruin some of the images but it worked out better than I could've hoped for. I'm not sure I like the light trail at the bottom of the image but the illumination of the tree is fantastic. Happy accident! Image comprised of 105x 30sec images overlaid using startrail software. No manipulation in Elements this time other than addition of the watermark.
Star trail test
Star trail test
this was the test shot with f5.6, the exif says 2040sec but that sounds too long, I thought the first test shot was about 10-13 minutes = 600-780sec, no noise reduction by camera, tiny tweak of WB in PS, but this was actually my best star trail shot of all.
