From the creators of Dominant strings comes a breakthrough. Thomastik Infeld strings are relatively insensitive to humidity changes, break in quickly, and have relatively low tension. A new, synthetic composite core gives these strings a full sound and a longer life span than other synthetic strings, and are reponsive to different playing techniques. The "Infeld Blue" set enhances the "brighter overtones" on most violins and represents half of the Thomastik-Infeld violin string system (see also Infeld Red). All 8 strings of this "system" are matched and balanced for playability and tension load so that they may be interchanged to achieve the optimal tonal balance for a given violin, thus minimizing impact to both the player and the instrument. The "Blue" set has an "E" that is a tin plated carbon steel, an "A" & "D" that are hydronalium wound over a composite core, and a "G" that is a silver wound over the composite core.

These Westward Duple Dominants prove the old adage about buses all coming at once: I had been searching for one of these rare kits for some time before buying the one on the right, but within a few months the other example had also come onto the market. They are both now in my 'budget' Carousel Coaches contract fleet but retain their previous owners' liveries. A240 RKO is a Bedford YMQ formerly with Evans of Corwen (Dee Valley) but acquired via a dealer in Bedford, while D122 TUS is a Dennis Lancet and came from Dunsmorian of Rugby.

First Northampton had a collection of Leyland Tiger buses in the late 1990s; some of the ex-Shearings Alexander-bodied vehicles were transferred from Leicester but four others came from Yorkshire Rider and had Duple Dominant bodies with high-back seating. One of these was 410 (EWR 653Y) seen in Duston on route 28, the black painted grille panel and complete absence of any side trim doing nothing to enhance its appearance.

Its radiance and ability to project sound without being metallic comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato passages. Other advantages are Dominant's effortless response to intricate fingering and its tuning stability even under extreme atmospheric conditions.Dominant strings should be changed at appropriate intervals to ensure continuity of tone color.
