Breakfast! It might seem strange for someone eating low-carb to have rice for breakfast but let me explain: The body needs energy to function. After a long, meal-less night it's idling away, yearning for new food. The wrong thing to say (in the morning, though one might be tempted) is "There's enough fat to feast on!" Because your body doesn't see a reason to burn fat when you're awake. It just keeps on idling (metaboically speaking) until you get really hungry and eat. And then your body remembers all the idling and stashes some of the energy away for later use. With breakfast your body goes: "Woah, food! I can burn that stuff right away!" If you eat when you're hungry your body will learn that there's no need for keeping reserves. Reason number two: Some parts of your body are more dependant on carbs than others (the brain for example) and after a long night your carb reservoirs are depleted. Your brain won't work properly until you've given it food. Pure sugar will be in your brain instantly but kill your pancreas over time and you'll become diabetic. More complex packages like rice, or ideally brown rice (but I like my white rice and I don't see a reason why I should keep moderate doses of it out of my diet) and whole wheat products will give off sugar over time, keeping your bloodsugar levels level. As I said, I prefer white rice to brown rice. I have a maximum of one cup for breakfast, the rest of the portion I make in the morning (a total of ~1.5cups) for lunch with veggies or as sushi. Then some proteins and more greens/veggies. I try to keep carbs out of my dinner or at least reduce the amount towards dinner - keeping them out of dinner is virtually impossible unless you have only salad. Dairy products have lactose and buying lactose free products won't help because in those the lactose has only been converted to normal sugar. Same amount of sugar but more easily available for your body so thumbs-down for people w/o lactose intolerance. And dairy products are essential (for me) for my dinner proteins. They'll sate you for a long time and help with burning fat over night (when consumed at dinner). I don't care about fat. I buy low-fat dairy products, but fat is necessary for the body as well. Salmon and other fish have essential fatty acids your body needs. True, you can get those from plants as well, but your body will use less of the plant fatty acids than it would of the same amount of fish fatty acids. So, lean meats, low fat dairy and fatty fish ftw! Okay, random talk time is over.

I was setting the table yesterday afternoon. I had a low and was all blah because of it and by the time I was back up and sat down for lunch (yeah pre-meal lows....gotta love em) I noticed that I had committed one of my notorious random-low-acts again....(last time I found a metal spoon in the garbage....I sometimes do weird stuff when I'm low but don't remember doing it later LOL) the picture up there depicts what I found... as funny as this is..it kind of worries me because Lord knows what I have done in public that I don't remember doing while I was low hahaha Another funny thing that happened today was when I got home my uncle was going through the fridge and found 4(!) opened Diet Coke Bottles in the fridge...so take a guess who his prime suspect was....the diabetic. LOL wonderful....btw my rep sheet has since been cleared and the mystery solved....it was my aunt. A not so funny thing was that I was soaring around 300 today during class today and my teacher was all " you need to talk about it because you are obviously not in a good mood. it is sunny outside you should be in a great mood and it's an attitude thing" this was after I told him I'm fine (because I obviously did not want to talk)...he always asks in this overly friendly tone how we are whhen we walk in and never does anything in private, he is nosy and tells evryone your business...so I kept saying I really do not want to talk right now. I'm sorry and I don't know about you but when my BG is that high I am not a pleasant person to be around and I have said this before but I always feel terrible afterwards if I was mean to someone during that time which is why usually I try to stay quiet because every little thing seems to annoy me like crazy. one of my friends had to explain to him again to leave me alone and that my sugar was high. I have talked to him so many times about this and that I have never used it as an excuse (believe me if I'm in a naturally bad mood I will let you know if I don't like something and I usually don't let it out on an innocent person (when my BG is normal) so...he's just a special case...) I feel good now. It was just a loooongg day :) clocking out at 162. So tell me, anybody out there that you have to work with on a regular basis that just does not get "it"?
