This is a picture of one of my classmates at university. He is known to care more than the average student about his studies and his performance in courses. I, on the other hand, am completely his opposite: I am usually laid back and rarely serious. Not that I don’t care, it is just that I like to put things in perspective (at least from my point of view). For example one day few minutes before an exam of a difficult subject I was laughing and joking, and so one of my classmates asked me, “Fadi, how can you be laughing right now?!” I answered him what I believe in, “What is the worst can happen if you fail? You repeat the course! If you fail again, you repeat the course again! Even if you go on academic probations, or even if you are kicked out of university, then go to college! And if you won’t finish college, you can still find a job!” My classmates were surprised by my answer, but it is true. May be I think this way because I am on average 7 years older than them. To many of them succeeding in school and making a lot of money is their highest goal in life right now. (My classmates don’t understand why I, the mature one, act less worldly “wise” than them. One time a classmate asked me why I buy my music and not download it for free, so I explained to him that it is stealing, and he said, “Before, I used to think like you!” I laughed and told him, “It is usually the older person says this to the wrong person!” Another time a classmate asked me what I think about some girl’s body and I told him, “I don’t care. I only care about the woman I will marry.” He was surprised by my answer and said, “Man, you are so innocent!” Of course, I am not any more innocent than the next sinful person…which happens to be every human being. Few classmates asked to see my driving license so they could believe that I am 26 years old, and that’s because I usually joke with them and rarely serious. My classmates don’t understand why I am the one who doesn’t download “free” software, why I “don’t care” about money, why I am the one “who doesn’t curse”, and why I am not the serious one. That’s because my classmates don’t know that the Bible teaches that the more spiritually wise we want to become the more like children we should become. It means we become joyful, worry-free, not concerning ourselves with worldly things, and certainly not steal or think like the world does.) I wasn’t always this “worry free” as my mom calls me, but after I became to know our Lord Jesus Christ in 1999 at the age of 16, I realized I was going to heaven! (For two full days after I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour I was so happy as if I was day dreaming.) Of course, I am not “worry free”, nobody is, and I have my worries and concerns. There are things I want to control and other things I want them to stay the same. There are things I would hate for them to happen. But why should I worry when I know my destiny is to witness God’s glory? To know that God loves you so much by sending His only Son to die for you and now you have the promise of eternal life and worry is sillier than getting upset if you had won a million dollar but found out that you have to pay a one dollar fee! About two years ago I lost a very dear friendship. My mom said after a couple of months, “Now I know what faith is like because of the way you are responding to your pain,” because my mom knew I was hurt since I loved her, my friend, a lot and with all my heart. Of course, my mom didn’t know that I cried daily, and some days more than once, for a whole year, and even beyond that. Sometimes I would be on the subway and would quickly turn off the classical music I would be listening to, because I knew tears would come out if I continued listening to it. But my mom was right: I was not worried about my friend or me, because even though we don't speak to each other anymore I know that God is in control. I cannot say that I believe God exists when I act as if He is not and His existence doesn’t make a difference. I cannot say that I believe He is in control when I worry when things are out of my control. I cannot say He is good when I don’t trust He works for our good. If we are still friends today, could’ve I ever loved her, cared for her, guided her, protected her, and gave her gifts more than her Heavenly Father can? By no means. I know that no matter what is going on with her life now that her heavenly Father is all she needs to have a happy and fruitful life. Other times people accuse me of not valuing money nor understand its value. But I think I understand its value very well: money is a mean of easing business transactions…no more and no less. It is much more convenient to use money than carry a cow to the store to trade it for a computer! (Beside, that would be quite embarrassing!) And for that I appreciate money! A study stated that when people lower 500g per week, those people ma intain long term descent. It is the best objective that we can intend, to lower 500g for week and know ledge that some week won't lose weight. If you want to lower quick we can al so help you, of course, but I have to be conscious that in some moment losin g weight rate won’t be the one as desired. And I don't want to frustrate mys elf for that reason, the following week I will achieve the results. The body is not something that reacts mathematically, the weight it depends o n many factors, as the retention of liquids, the intestinal evacuation, the t ime in which weigh myself, that ingested the previous night, if I ingested pi zza or another very salted food I will surely retain liquids, the same as if I began with an intense activity the previous day. Another cause of failure in a diet is to be very strict with what you have to ea t. If I go to a party and I don't eat anything, or same at home if I am extremely strict it is very difficult to be able to maintain the plan and in the first time that comes out, you will think “I cannot make diet" or "this is not for m e", frustrating me once again, abandoning and feeling badly. These 2 forms of thinking "if I don't lower 1 kilo per week every week I’m no t doing anything good at all" or "I can’t make the diet because I ate an ice cream." are forms in that consciously or unconsciously plot us the diet to ou rselves. In fact I don't want to make diet. Let us accept it! Nobody wants to make it, but they want to lose weight. Unfortunately these 2 factors are really hard to join them together and make it work|Regrettably the 2 things join are not able to work together}. Perhaps it is time that you start making choices, and make decisions in orde r to choose which path you want to go. By just choosing to remain healthy, y ou will get results.
