This academic year cast must also work as crew - there will be no separate teams!!
The play is a parody of superhero movies - set in today's world in a large city and mainly involves citizens of this metropolis who experience the evil of a supervillain, despite the protection of dumb superhero. It takes a smart teen to show everyone about friendship and save the day!
CAST OF CHARACTERS
NARRATOR [F/M] An offstage voice of authority.
Superheroes
VON DARKNESS [F/M] An egotistical supervillain, great with technology. Daybreak’s sworn enemy.
DAYBREAK [F/M] A defender of all that’s good. Despite his name, he’s a little dim.
NOCTURNE [F/M] Moody and sulking but a good fighter. Thinks she and Von Darkness are equals.
ROBIN [F] A young girl who idolizes Daybreak. Smarter than most of the adults she encounters, which isn’t hard.
Citizens
VENDOR [F/M] An aggressive hot dog vendor.
MANN [F/M] A self-righteous park-goer.
DUDE [F/M] Wants his cat, Corporal Muffinbreath, to win a tree climbing tournament. Female dudes are DUDETTEs.
ANNOUNCER [F/M] An offstage voice of authority.
LILY WOMAN [F/M] A woman who hates being mugged but can’t argue her way out of it.
MUGGER [F/M] A guy who loves taking purses; a fan of Daybreak.
JENNY WOBEGON [F/M] A Minnesotan transplant who’s as helpful as can be. A male Jenny is JAKE.
SENTRY [F/M] A careless, ignorant and inattentive base guarder.
We will be looking for actors who can play superhero characters - especially hero and villain voices, a strong teen role, as well as odd and interesting adult people who live in the city. Can you create unusual voices or do you have a physical skill? e.g. juggling??
Steps to Audition
Auditions will be done in groups:
Download an extract from the script HERE and get together with a few friends to practice
Come along ready to present at the Audition session on Wednesday November 17th from 3-5pm in the Black Box (MB100 across from the school store and near the cafeteria).
You may also be asked to read a part of character by yourself, take some time to think of what kind of voice, mannerisms or style the character may have. We'll be looking for energetic, super people.
Make sure you understand and know the days of the Rehearsal Schedule below and that you complete the online application form for this Activity by clicking the Join Button at the bottom of this webpage, so that we know numbers involved. Please do not attend the Activity unless you have officially registered by clicking on the Join Button below and have completed the form! Sign up by the 24th November!!
Rehearsals will be Wednesdays 3-5pm and some Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays 3-5pm from late November 2021 to mid February 2022. Once you are given a role after auditions, you will need to complete a cast/crew pledge which will be available online from the first rehearsal.
Please note: Due to the dates of availability for the Auditorium, this activity runs over both the MS Fall and Winter Enrichment Sessions, so please be aware of that when signing up for both these sessions.
