Character Information

Please remember when selecting a character to audition for:

• Look at the Audition Pack to see background details on the play and story. Please note external sites may be limited in detail, so it is up to you to search further on Google about your character and the show! Be proactive!
• If the physical character description does not seem like you, don't be discouraged. And if you feel you have the skills to take on that role, don't hesitate to audition, we'd love to see what you have to offer. Auditions for minor speaking roles (walk on/walk off) may be asked to work in a group scene rather than a one minute monologue.
• Adjustments may be made with minor roles and doubling, so please check with the panel before auditions.
• The Nutcracker is set in Europe many centuries ago - so while it is not necessary to have an accent, if you can try one for your part - please let us know - though is not essential.
• You will need to join an acting session to audition for a role, please see the Audition Page for more information. They are all loads of fun, so don't worry! If you are interested in lead or supporting role, you will also need to prepare and present a 1-2 minute monologue as the character.

• This play is not the Ballet, The Nutcracker. But, there are a number of dance sequences in this play, and there will be dance audition later in August for a unique dance chorus. If you have any experience with ballet or any other dance form, please let us know - then Choreographer will be in contact with you. (see below Story information for Cast List details ⬇︎)

CHARACTER LIST

• CLARA (teens) - A smart, beautiful girl who is imaginative, kind, and brave.
• FRANK (child)/KRAKATUK* - Clara's younger brother. Sometimes feigning innocence, sometimes a scallywag/The fearful Acorn in Candy Land who resembles Clara's brother, Frank.
• GODFATHER DROSS (40+) - Clara's Godfather who is a master toymaker and magician. Mysterious and funny
• THE NUTCRACKER (late teens, early 20s)- A young prince who has been cursed into the shape of a Nutcracker doll
• AUNT HARRIET / SNOW QUEEN* - Clara's complaining Aunt/The Icy Cold Snow Queen who resembles Clara's Aunt
• MICKEY / MOUSE KING* - Clara's mischievous and annoying cousin/The Evil King of the Mice. The Mouse King declares war on the Nutcracker and his soldiers and resembles Clara's cousin
• FATHER - Clara's kind hearted Dad
• MOTHER / SUGAR PLUM FAIRY* - Clara's kind Mother/A beautiful fairy who resembles Clara’s Mother

• OWL CLOCK - Announcer of time and sometimes characters in a hooting voice [this voice may be prerecorded]
• 1st MOUSE, 2nd MOUSE, 3rd MOUSE & 4th MOUSE - Four menacing mice who try to scare Clara away
• 1st SNOWFLAKE & 2nd SNOWFLAKE - Glistening welcomers to Candy Land
• FIRST CANDY CANE (IRMAGARDE) & SECOND CANDY CANE (HILDEGARDE) - Two bored Guards to Candy Land
• COFFEE - A servant girl delivering Coffee
• TEA - A servant girl delivering Tea
• DAISY - A gliding flower of sunshine
• ROSE - A waltzing refined flower
• BONBON - An excitable chocolate sweet
• PRINCE / NED* - the handsome ruler of the Candy Land/Godfather Dross's dashing Godson
• ENSEMBLE: TOY SOLDIERS, MICE, SNOWFLAKES AND FLOWERS
