We need your mentorship!
We need your mentorship!
Simsbury High School is always looking for community members with knowledge and skills to share with our students.
Learn more by adding your information to our Community Mentor Network!
Kylie Lucas, with support from Simsbury Pollinator Pathway, created a pollinator-friendly garden.
Shawn Lawlor, with mentor Mary Richardson, provided community members with tech support at the Simsbury Public Library.
Gabe Park, with advice from Professor Jason Chang of UCONN, organized a presentation for Equity Week at Simsbury High School.
Community Mentors could be recent college graduates, working professionals, organization leaders, parents, or retirees. They might be businesspeople, athletes, healthcare workers, craftspeople, engineers, child care providers, academics, or musicians. If you have passion for what you do, expertise to share, and a desire to work with young people, please join the network!
Career Panel Participation—Community members' career panel participation helps students understand how to prepare for careers, and which careers within a field might be best for them. Career panels may focus on trades, entrepreneurship, or medical professions.
Interview—A student might ask for a one-time conversation about your work or career field as part of a student's project or career exploration.
Expert Adviser or Community Mentor—A student might have Capstone project questions beyond the scope of teacher expertise. When this happens, students are encouraged to reach out to community members who could answer questions, provide knowledge, teach skills, and give "real world" suggestions, ideas, and feedback to the student. Students and mentors might communicate weekly, every other week, or monthly, depending on student progress and mentor availability.
Host a Student—Many SHS students are interested in opportunities to volunteer, shadow, or intern with local organizations or businesses. If you believe your organization could help a high school student explore a career or service interest, please connect with us.
