Bio: I received my B.S. degree in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University and have been an Instrumental Music Teacher/Band Director in Simsbury since 1978. I have performed in numerous commercial bands over the years as well as jazz bands and community theatre orchestras. During my tenure in Simsbury I was the High School Band Director from 1981 until 2001. While at the high school the Concert Bands and Jazz Bands under my direction participated in and received excellent ratings in numerous regional music festivals and competitions. I believe my experience at the high school level has prepared me to better understand the needs and abilities of the developing young musician.

Philosophy: Everyone should learn to play an instrument! It can be fun. You can do it for your entire life. You learn so much about the learning process itself that can be applied to any subject or activity. Participating in a musical performance can be very rewarding on both a musical and social level. A performing ensemble is a team where everyone (regardless of ability) is a contributing member. No one has to sit on the bench! Everyone (that I know) relates to music of some kind. Why wouldn't you want your child to be knowledgeable about it?
