Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Michael McCain, and I will be your child’s science teacher for this upcoming school year!
I would like to provide some background information about myself. This will be my Ninth year teaching, and my Eleventh year in Education. This is my Eighth year at Simsbury High School. Prior to coming here, I was a Chemistry and Integrated Science teacher at Killingly High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Sacred Heart University, where I majored in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have completed my Masters of Education at Sacred Heart University as well.
With the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Engineering practices, science is changing, evolving, and developing daily with new discoveries and questions. Science is the process of inquiry, challenging students to question what they see and what they do. Presenting students with a challenge, then having them work to solve it by leading them with information and questions. I intend to bring this type of science to my classroom.
Your child will spend little time listening to me lecture in the front of the room. I believe in students taking an active role in their learning in the classroom, they should be at the center of every lesson. I will help them to solve problems, discover and learn in groups by collaboration with their peers.
Every child is different and brings something unique to every discussion and class. A classroom truly feels like a place of learning when students feel comfortable and can trust everyone in the classroom.
I look forward to a great year of learning and discovery. If you ever need to contact me about anything, feel free to call the school or email me at mmccain@simsburyschools.net and I will get back to you the same day.
Sincerely,
Michael McCain
