TEACHER BIO
Phaelon Koski earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Hartford's The Hartt School with an instrumental focus and trumpet as his primary instrument. At Hartt, he took his performance obligations quite seriously, serving as a principal player in the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra as well as performing in the Graduate Brass Quintet. Also at Hartt, he earned a minor in Music Theory by taking several graduate level music theory courses as an undergraduate student. Similarly, he took multiple graduate level conducting courses studying with Edward Cumming and Glen Adsit. Phaelon maintains an active freelancing career on trumpet performing in Connecticut and Massachusetts for primarily Seven Angels Theater and Playhouse on Park.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My teaching philosophy centers around teaching concepts and skills rather than focusing on performance. These skills fall into three categories: instrumental technique, musical literacy, and ensemble skills. In each class there is a focus on those three categories in a supportive but challenging environment. I believe in being the biggest cheerleader for student success while also always giving specific feedback to take students to the next level.
