Gwendolyn Winkel teaches grades 5 and 6 Band and Jazz Band at Squadron Line School. Ms. Winkel is a veteran teacher; having taught instrumental music in Simsbury for 16 years and general music, chorus, and recorder consort in Torrington for 13 years.
Ms. Winkel is an active musician and is a member of the following Performing Organizations: Beth-El Temple, Connecticut Valley, Farmington, Manchester, and Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestras; Alta, a Renaissance Wind Trio; Cambiata Early Music Ensemble; Mostly Baroque Chamber Orchestra, Clarineticut Quartet; and the Classical Trio for Clarinet, violin, and piano.
Ms. Winkel holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Graduate Artist Diploma Degree in Clarinet Performance from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford and a Master of Music Degree from The Boston Conservatory. Additional Studies: clarinet chamber music, culture, and performance practice in music festivals in Siena and Orvieto, Italy for seven summers; early music workshops, ensembles, and masterclasses for recorder, shawm, dulcian, percussion, and Middle Eastern folk music as part of the Amherst Early Music Festival for 15 summers.
