I have served as a Wellness teacher at Simsbury High Schools since 2001. Prior to that time, I coached and taught for 5 years in Virginia. I enjoy getting to know my students, finding new ways to incorporate technology into my instruction and creating hands-on performance-based asssessments.
"Quality health education and physical education programs prepare students by providing them with:
• information and learning experiences to support and enhance their abilities to access, understand, appraise, apply, and advocate for health information and services to maintain or improve their own health and the health of others;
• the ability to move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person;
• learning experiences that lead to academic achievement;
• skills to improve focus, attention, concentration, and on-task behavior;
• skills and knowledge that encourage lifetime healthy behaviors and goal setting; and
• practices that foster effective cross-cultural communication, problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills" (CSDE, 2021).
Students must complete the general PE make up assignment within two (2) weeks of the absence. The assignment should be submitted to classroom and printed off to hand directly to the teacher. Some units will have specific PE make up assignments based upon the current unit of instruction. The topic of the assignment will be posted in Powerschool in the comments section.
