TikTok is a social platform that gives users the opportunity to share 60 second short videos with friends, family or the entire world.

Users can choose whether to have music in the background to sing along/ lip-sync to or not.

These videos are shared onto your profile which can be private or public based on the users decision.

Videos – Users can create short videos of themselves with or without background music which they can edit to entertain followers

Sync your account – You have the option to connect your account with other social media to also share your videos on your other platforms

Duet – Film your video alongside another video to interact with other users and perform duet songs/ comedy videos

‘For you’ page – This is TikTok’s feed page which allows users to see recent and popular videos from accounts they follow. This is made up of videos similar to others you have watched

Saved content – You can save hashtags, sounds and filters you like in your ‘saved’ section to use again in other videos for quick access

TikTok privacy and security:

  • All accounts are public by default when first created. Users can change this in their settings to ensure only people with their permission can see their account and videos
  • Switch your settings so that only your friends can message you to ensure strangers cannot
  • The 'Allow Others to Find Me' setting can be turned on/ off by a user to stop their account being searchable or suggested to follow on other accounts
  • Parental controls are available on the app to block search words that may provide inappropriate content- although this does not remove all dangers of finding this content
