Snapchat is used to send instant photo messages to your contacts and friends. All you have to do is open the app, take a photo using the front/ back camera and it is ready to send!

Snapchat filters can then be added before taking a photo as a fun addition to a snap. To access these, open the app to the camera, tap on the screen once and the selection should appear at the bottom of the screen.

Snapmaps

is a new feature that allows users to see where all of their contacts are over the world. This can be zoomed in with excellent detail, even to which house you are in. If you do not want your contacts to be able to see where you are whenever you log onto the app, there is a ghost-mode setting that means you do not appear on anyone's map.

QR Code

Snapchat QR codes or "Snapcodes" can be used to easily and quickly add friends on the app. These can be screen grabbed and shared to other social media or sent to individual phone contacts.

Snapchat messages is an instant messenger that does not require a picture. These chats can be saved and last on the account forever. If you don't save these messages, they disappear after you've viewed them just like picture messages.

Things to watch out for

  • Snaps Don't Disappear Completely - After the 10 seconds is up, the snap doesn't disappear completely, and stores itself on your phone as well as whoever you send it to
  • Snapmaps - When enabled, this feature very accurately shares your current location with everyone in your contact list
  • Screenshots - Anybody can screenshot what you share, you get a notification but there is no block for this
  • What you share - Once you've sent it, you can't get it back
  • Privacy Settings - Always ensure your account is on private
