One of the largest icons of Celestine's Crazy Quilt is the sailboat on the lowest center square. This depiction is an ode to Lynn's boating culture in the early 19th century. After the Civil War, Lynn became very industrialized and was the hub of major shoe factories and one of the original General Electric plants. Though Celestine would not be able to go back to her hometown and relive those peaceful days watching the water, the Boston Harbor provided her with enough inspiration and nostalgia.
