In the 1880 census, Celestine's occupation was listed as seamstress; it changed to Fore Lady of a Boston tailor's shop in 1890. The Hub Customer Tailoring Company, pictured on the right, is an example of the kind of business Celestine would have been working for. Here she would have created and mended garments, quilts, and other fabric items for Boston citizens. All of her earnings supported her two sisters and mother; her mother did not receive much compensation after being widowed and the female Bachellers had to fend for themselves.Â
