Project Timeline & Process
Completing the CSI Diploma Seal Program is a school-year long commitment. The process starts in the fall usually in September-October. Project work takes place over the course of the coming months with various check-ins and help by our Advisory. All projects must be completed by April of the following spring. Preparing for the final presentations begins in May with the actual presentations taking place at our Senior Recognition event held at The Reagan Library.
From Inspiration to Impact - The Annual Work Flow of CSI
September - October
Kickoff Informational Meeting held with Advisory & Reagan team (Program Overview, Idea Generation)
Students unable to attend the kickoff must email the CSI Advisory Team
Students submit their interest to participate and general project idea via the CSI INTEREST FORM (this generates their request to join CSI)
Students complete the CSI PROJECT PROPOSAL (sent to them via email) and submit for approval
Projects may be completed by an individual student or a small group (no more than 3-4 members max)
If a group project, students will determine one "point person" to submit all documents and be the main contact
Students designate and secure an adult mentor (the CSI Advisory Team can help with this!)
Students are granted approval OR asked to meet with a CSI Advisory Team member to refine their idea just a bit more
Once students' are granted approval for their projects they are officially participants in that year's CSI Program. They will then be given access to CSI Program's official Remind app and Google Classroom for all communication and tasks for the year.
November (leading up to Thanksgiving Break)
Students further review their Project Proposal Form with an Advisory Team member and create a project plan
CSI projects designed to be held on the campus of RHS must also be approved as RHS-sanctioned events/programs by the RHS Associated Student Body Executive Board. Students will need to download and submit this form for their CSI Project to the ASB office for approval from the ASB student leaders and Director of Activities. For questions, contact the Director of Activities.
December - April
Students implement their projects with the support of the Advisory and Adult Mentors
Students will take part in a formal check-in meeting to review current progress and to address any concerns, get assistance.
Dependent on available time during the year, the Advisory may also call a "Project Summit" together where all participants would discuss their projects/progress with CSI Program peers for feedback, advice, ideas, support.
Students meet independently as needed (regularly) with their Adult Mentors (this is not monitored by the Advisory)
Projects must be completed in full by the end of April (specific date TBD)
May/June
Students will meet with the Advisory and be guided through the format/outline and other requirements for the final presentation
Students will have the month of May to prepare their presentation (for students taking AP & IB tests in May - the weeks after testing is done is more than enough time to prepare your presentations)
On a date TBD, students will present their work at the May PTSA meeting, held in our CSI Room.
In late May, a "dress rehearsal" event may take place for students to practice their presentations
Typically on the Monday evening of the last week of school, Royal holds its Senior Recognition Event at The Reagan Library. While this event is for our overall graduating Senior Class award recipients, the CSI Program presentations take place an hour prior. This event is attended by families, peers, community and district leadership, and The Reagan staff.
CSI Participants will create a visual display of their project, the process they took to complete, the impact it made on others, and the growth they have personally experienced as student leaders through participation in our program. Students will present in an expo format at the same time as the other CSI participants. Each individual or group will have the opportunity to interface with attendees and explain the success and benefits of their work.
The CSI Program is open to students in grades 9-12. Students, regardless or grade, will present their project at this event the year they complete the project. However, the CSI Diploma Seal and Challenge Coin will be awarded and affixed to the students' diplomas the year they graduate from RHS.
