At Sidney Stringer Primary Academy (SSP) we value the importance of Relationships and Health Education. We believe that education in; physical, social and health education (PSHE): the statutory relationships and health education; as well as and citizenship enables children to become healthier, more independent and more responsible members of society. We also use PSHE - sometimes referred to as Values - sessions to teach; how society is organised and governed; about their rights and responsibilities; and they also learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse and multi-cultural society where they understand the protective characteristics of both themselves and others. We believe that the teaching of PSHE and citizenship helps in many ways to meet the objectives set out in The Children’s Act 2004 – that children ‘be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution, and achieve economic well-being’.

We believe that personal, social, health and economic education is one of the key factors in developing a well rounded member of society. In order for every child at Sidney Stringer Primary to achieve, we teach our Values Curriculum. Our Values curriculum aims to equip children with the skills needed in the wider world regardless of their starting point. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is at the heart of our school ethos and engrained in the values that we promote so that every child can succeed to be a fully rounded citizen in our ever evolving, modern society.
