At Sidney Stringer Primary, our carefully planned and progressive History curriculum aims to encourage a sense of curiosity and excitement amongst children. Our History curriculum guides children to become more rounded, informed and inquisitive individuals who can contribute to society through making critically informed decisions, judgements and answer more complex questions. Children will build on these skills throughout their time at Sidney Stringer Primary by studying a range of progressive time periods, events and both a vast range primary and secondary sources. Not only this, but children will learn how to make connections, compare trends over time and develop an awareness of important aspects such as changes in history, causes of events and the significance of events. Moreover, children will learn, through the study of history at Sidney Stringer Primary, that things that happened in the past, shape and determine how we live in the future and thus, develop skills which allow them to analyse, explain and critique previous, complex issues. Studying both local and global history is an important aspect of our curriculum as key stories and events from different periods allow children to appreciate, recognise and understand different cultures, ideas and traditions which are typically not their own and thus, allowing them to become a respectful British Citizen.
