At Sidney Stringer Primary we value the important role that the Early Years plays in laying secure foundations for future learning and development. We want children to be happy and confident with a love for learning. We believe in providing all children with a safe and stimulating environment that builds on each of their wants, needs and interests.

It is our intent that the children who enter our EYFS develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally whilst embedding a positive attitude to school and learning. We believe that all children deserve to be valued as an individual and we are passionate in allowing all children to achieve their full potential. Therefore, the team of staff working in our Reception classes build upon the children’s prior knowledge and experiences and deliver a curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. We use a balance of teacher led activities and play based activities in order to support children to take risks, explore and become independent learners ready for their next stage in their school journey. We understand that children learn in different ways, so we aim to provide a stimulating and inviting learning environment, both indoors and outdoors for the children to build relationships and learn with their friends and adults.

In the EYFS we use a thematic approach to learning, each half term the children’s learning is focused on a new topic to ensure children make connections in all areas of the EYFS curriculum.
