The “Sinigang”, is a short story written by Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran, Where the main character Liza portrays how she feels about her Father who had an extramarital affair with someone else.
While Liza was giving a hand to her Tita Loleng to cook her favorite dish Sinigang she was asked about what happened to her during the wake of her half-brother Lam who died out of cancer. She then recalled Lem who was not nice to her when he was still alive, and how she was greeted by Lem’s mother, Sylvia Where Liza concludes with her thought that she’s not as beautiful as her mother. She then asked Liza for forgiveness for her grave mistake with his father. Whom she just forgives with a nood where no emotions are shown, but Sylvia assumes it as a yes and hugs her tight. In this statement, it was shown clearly that Liza isn't really happy to know about her Father's affair and meeting her deceased half-brother as well as her Mother.
She was then approached by her Father and talked about the funeral of her Half-Brother, Lem. She then realized that the boy who keep calling her father on phone before was Lem. Knowing it broke her heart as she used to be her Daddy's Girl. When it was time for Lem's burial, they both stood there watching the coffin being lowered, then Liza's father look at her and apologized. After telling her story to his Tita Loleng they have just finished cooking the sinigang which will be served for dinner just like how it has always been in their house but she knows things will never go back to how they were before after everything that has happened.
It is illustrated how Liza has accepted and forgave her father despite his mistake which has ruined their family. She thinks that family is important and forgiving her father is better than being aggrieved at him. Though things will never be the same as before.
