Combined Band And Orchestra
By: Anna
Imagine that we had a time when the Band and Orchestra got to play together. It doesn't need to be a concert or something big, it could be just a full band/orchestra meeting. I have many reasons why this should be a thing, one reason is that kids can see other instruments and learn about them. People could also meet new people and learn what they play and that could make you have more friends!
Another reason is that it would be pretty easy, all you need is a space big enough for both band and orchestra which could be the cafetorium. Then you would need to find a song that brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion could play. You could get kids pretty excited for it so you could plan a date that would work for everyone.
Another reason is that it would sound super cool! There could be something like it starts off really slow and then gets louder and louder and louder and louder then as if you aren't using a microphone anymore, it gets so quiet and the string and woodwinds play. There could also be something like brass does something like bum, bum budum. Then woodwinds respond, then percussion responds then string responds and it would sound super cool. In band we play a song called “Synergy March” and it uses that same response idea.
Another reason is that it would push kids to practice their instrument so they would be good for the show. Say you are in band, you could practice with people who are in orchestra!
Now let's see what some band and orchestra kids would think!
This is what Erin Yothsackda, a 10 year old cello player, thinks! “I think it would actually be really fun because we could combine our strengths and it would sound really cool. I also think it would be fun to see other instruments, band and orchestra are great alone but it would sound even better together!” That is Erin’s opinion folks.
Megan, a 10 year old cello player says,"Well, in my orchestra concerts we play with the high school kids who are in band so we already do that and it sounds cool. But with elementary schoolers, I'm not so sure." Thank you Megan for your honest opinion!
Mimi, a 10 year old flute player says,"I think it would sound cool if you played beethoven and it switches off and also do some parts together because sometimes you could hear the band and at other times you could hear the orchestra. I also think that it would be cool to see other instruments other than what I see in band.” Thank you Mimi!
Xavier, a 10 year old percussionist says, ”I feel like it would sound way better, hearing all the instruments play at once, wow, it would sound pretty good. It would also be cool to see the other instruments in action.” Thank you for your time Xavier.
Evelyn, a 10 year old clarinet player, says,”I think that people would like it because people could be with their friends, I also think that it would be cool to play the instruments together and you could hear what it would sound like.” Thank you Evelyn!
It was so cool to hear everyone’s opinions so I just want to thank Evelyn, Xavier, Megan, Mimi and Erin!
Now after reading these opinions, what do you think? Do you think that it would be fun to meet other people and see other instruments?
All in all, combined band and orchestra would be a blast!
