Have you ever wondered if you share the same birthday with many people around the world? Or how common your date of birth is? It turns out that some birthdays are actually more common than you thought! Keep reading to find out :)
The data set you will see below is according to studies done by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics, and the U.S. births data for births between 2000 to 2014 came from the Social Security Administration.
“The deeper the blue, the more people with that birth date. The deeper red, the less birth dates. It is worth noting that the deepest red is for months with no 31st day.”
Interestingly, it’s not days that are more common, but months! 9 out of 10 of the most common birthdays are in September, but August is the most frequent birth month in the United States! An average of 361,709 August babies are born each year in the US. Tuesday is the most common day of the week to be born on. What did you think it was? Did you know that the highest percentage of births occur at 8 am and noon? I was born around 12:45 pm, so I guess my birth time is pretty common.
However, the ratio of sexes at birth is 1.05 males per 1 female! If you are born in February, that is the least common birth month, with an average of 316,891 births every year. The 13th of any month is also one of the least common days, due to superstitions around the day.
We’ve talked about months and averages, but let’s get to the fun part! Here are the 10 most popular birthdays in the US:
September 9th
September 19th
September 12th
September 17th
September 10th
July 7th
September 20th
September 15th
September 16th
September 18th
Like stated before, September isn’t the most common birth month. But, it is one of the busiest months for delivering babies. Something I found interesting was that the 10 least popular birthdays (below) were most often in the later months/the winter and the fall!
December 25th
January 1st
December 24th
July 4th
January 2nd
December 26th
November 27th
November 23rd
November 25th
October 31st

Last but not least, have an amazing summer and rest of your school year!
