BOE appoints Public Information Officer
Lindsay Valenti was appointed by the Board of Education as the Public Information Officer replacing Kelly DeFeciani who is retiring February 12. She has served as Associate Director of Communications for SUNY Empire State College. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of St. Rose and a Masters Degree from West Virginia University. She is scheduled to begin working at Shen on January 25, 2021.
While we understand that the upcoming holidays are a time when families want to get together to celebrate, please remember that it is important for you to be available to work when school is in session.
Governor Cuomo announced effective November 4, 2020, any one who travels to a state other than those contiguous to New York (i.e., Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) must quarantine for 14-days or “test out” to return to in-person work.
Travel to and from states contiguous to New York are exempt from the quarantine requirements. If an employee is scheduled to work remotely, he/she can commence accordingly. Individuals traveling internationally are subject to the full 14-day quarantine and cannot “test out”’.
The New York STate Department of Health requires anyone traveling out of the state with plans to return to NYS to complete a Traveler Health form. This form along with details about the travel advisory can be found on line at https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory
What is the “test out” process?
Any staff member who travels to another state for more than 24 hours must:
Obtain a COVID-19 diagnostic test within 3 days of departure from that state. You should determine in advance whether your health insurance plans will pay for an out-of-state COVID-19 test.
Upon arrival in New York, complete the travel form and quarantine for 3 days; and
On the fourth day, obtain another COVID-19 test. If both tests are negative, the employee may exit quarantine and return to in-person work after providing proof of negative tests to the Office of Human Resources.
Employees who were in another state for less than 24 hours do not need to obtain a COVID-19 diagnostic test prior to departing the state or quarantine for 3 days, but must fill out the traveler form upon entry to New York State and obtain a COVID-19 diagnostic test 4 days after arrival in New York.
As with the original travel restrictions, local health departments will validate tests, if necessary, and if a test comes back positive, will issue isolation orders and initiate contact tracing. The local health departments are expected to contact the state the traveler came from, to ensure contact tracing proceeds there as well.
Do I have to Charge time while I am awaiting the test results?
YES. Employees who must travel out of state must adhere to the New York Travel Restrictions. You may request to use your personal, or vacation time (if applicable ) from your supervisor and the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources during the period of time needed to “test out” of the mandatory quarantine, which is approximately 4 days. Individuals without time will not be paid. Individuals traveling internationally are subject to the full 14 day quarantine and cannot “test out”
What if I chose not to “test out”?
Employees who travel out of state must adhere to the New York Travel Restrictions. If you choose not to “test out”, you are required to quarantine for 14-days. You may request to use your personal, or vacation time (if applicable ) from your supervisor and the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and will not be paid for time taken that you have not accrued.
All staff are required to self-certify daily while out on quarantine or awaiting test results..

Daily Health Screening
Employee Self-Certification (platform used - EdVistas EduForm, also used for student certification)
BOE appointed employees should receive a personalized automated email notice each weekday (M-F). The email is from Shenendehowa CSD <email@example.com> with a subject line: COVID-19 Daily Health Screening for Staff and contains a link to your personalized self-certification form.
Employees are expected to complete this form each weekday regardless of working on-site or off-site and also in the event of an absence (planned or unplanned, COVID-19 related or not). The self-certification should be completed in advance of your scheduled work time. Employees will receive two automated email reminders if the self-certification has not been completed that day.
Visitors, Substitutes & Contractors Self-Certification (platform used - Google Form)
All visitors, substitutes, and contractors are expected to complete this self-certification form prior to entering campus buildings, this includes groups such as student teachers/interns, OT/PT therapists, parents, etc.) In addition to this link being posted on the district website and emailed to Shen substitutes/student teachers, we have created a poster with a QR code that can be printed/laminated and posted outside of each building's main entrances. In the rare event that a paper form is needed it can be found here.
Each building/department main office support team is responsible for ensuring that all visitors, substitutes and/or contractors complete the self-certification on each day they will be on campus. Main office support teams can ensure compliance of visitors, substitutes and contracts for respective buildings/departments by viewing the responses on a daily basis here at the time of guest check-in process.

Please do not click on attachments from suspicious e-mails. IMS or anyone else from the district will never send you an e-mail asking for your credentials. There are a lot of these phishing e-mails go around, please discard. If you have given your credentials away by answering it, please create a help desk ticket right away so that it can be investigated further and please change your network password immediately.
Bountiful Backpack Program
Shen's districtwide Bountiful BackPack Program is a partnership with the Regional Food Bank of NENY and is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends.
The program is funded entirely by local donations with 100% of donations going towards running Shenendehowa’s Bountiful BackPack program. The average cost of one backpack full of food is $6.10. The cost to sponsor a child for a full school year is $183.00.
