Band Classes at HMS
The Helena Middle School Band has the following classes for your 6th grade student
- Beginning Woodwind/Percussion Class
- Beginning Brass Class
The following classes are available for 7th and 8th grade band students:
- 7th Grade Percussion
- 8th Grade Percussion
- 7th Grade Winds (Brass & Woodwinds)
- 8th Grade Winds (Brass & Woodwinds)
As the bands near their performances there will be a few extra rehearsals, either before or after school, to rehearse the bands as a whole. There will be two performing bands - Beginning Band, and a combined 7th/8th Grade Wind Ensemble. The reason for the extra rehearsals is to combine the two beginning band classes and to have the 7th and 8th grade percussionists rehearse with the wind players.
During the second semester, we will also be adding a Jazz Band for 8th Grade students and some advanced 7th grade students. This band will meet on Friday mornings at 7:00 a.m. The only requirements for playing in this band are: 1.) you must play either saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drumset, piano, bass guitar or electric guitar; and 2.) you must be at the morning rehearsals.
