Radio & Television 1 & 2

Radio and Television 1&2 focuses on communication, media and production. Emphasis is placed on career opportunities, production, programming, promotion, sales, performance, and equipment operation. Students will also study the history of communication systems as well as communication ethics and law. Students will develop oral and written communication skills, acquire software and equipment operating abilities, and integrate teamwork skills.  Students train on professional equipment creating a variety of video projects. 

This course provides the opportunity for dual credit via Ivy Tech for students who meet post-secondary requirements for earning dual credit and successfully complete the dual credit requirements of this course.

Member requirements

Students must have strong communication, writing and computer skills and be able to work effectively in a team situation. Course prerequisites include Digital Applications & Responsibility and Interactive Media. Students must also have positive recommendations from their teachers and complete an application & interview by the given due date to Mrs. Fox.

What goes on during the classes?

The students work on all aspects of producing the morning show that airs everyday during 4th period in GBTV's studio.  Students are also responsible for producing content for The Growl online radio station that airs 24/7. Students also work on producing segments, promotions, and PSAs for the entire school corporation and businesses in Shelbyville.

What is GBTV?

The class is a production class based in a TV studio, control room and computer lab setting to produce the daily morning show. GBTV morning show includes the daily announcements, sports, weather, and call in trivia segments. What is The Growl?

The class is a production class based in a radio station, production room, and a computer lab setting to produce an online streaming radio station. The Growl includes a variety of genre music, promotions, and news.
