"My role as the SYHA/SSoA Project stack coordinator was transformative. Overseeing collaboration projects between students and industry offered me the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of future professionals while developing my own experience in inter-disciplinary and inter-sectorial partnerships. Witnessing the dynamic synergy that arises from bringing together diverse fields and facilitating these interactions highlighted the transformative potential of these collaborations in driving practical solutions.
Our projects allowed both the students and I to engage directly on a practical level, providing us with invaluable, hands-on experience. This unique deep dive into industry dynamics, challenges, and best practices bridged the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, enriching my professional capabilities and offering students an immersive learning experience. Being part of their development as they stretched their imaginations in client interactions and refine their skills in presenting research results was particularly rewarding.
Extending beyond academic and industry boundaries to create tangible community impact was a highlight of my role. These initiatives demonstrated the social relevance of our work and fostered a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Contributing to the community through these projects enhanced my appreciation for the broader implications of our collaborations and the positive change they can bring about.
Finally, this role made me a more effective and adaptable leader as the experience of coordinating complex projects, guiding teams, and engaging diverse stakeholders enhanced my ability to balance various interests and ensure successful project execution."
Faith Ng'eno, PhD Student & Project Stack Coordinator, 2019-20
"The SYHA Exhibition provided an opportunity to design, organise, and build a small-scale project, giving me a stand-out experience that I can use in my career whilst getting paid. This was an invaluable experience that I will take forward in my career in understanding the management of projects.
The project was challenging, and rewarding because of it - both in skills and experience gained, and in delivering a project I was proud of. It has made me see a holistic approach to undertaking a project, and when I make a design decision. Although I wouldn't know how to build it, I feel confident that I could reach out to someone who does and work with them to do it.
I feel like I have really had the chance to push myself and develop new skills and knowledge that I never would. The experience that I've gained through this project will stay with me and help my career going forward.
It was a very educational, rewarding, and challenging project, which I feel has developed my skills and knowledge drastically and given me an opportunity to really push myself, giving me confidence in what I can achieve."

"Project Stack was a profoundly meaningful experience for me. Our partnership with SYHA provided students with real-life industry experiences and our partner with valuable research contributions and creative ideas. As a coordinator, I gained invaluable industry insights and a deeper understanding of our School of Architecture's activities. This experience greatly enhanced my planning, communication, and coordination skills, boosting my confidence and making Project Stack a memorable part of my professional journey."
