William McMahon

PhD Researcher (2023-2027)

William is a PhD researcher based in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He is supervised by Dr Brant Walkley and is a member of Sustainable Materials at Sheffield research group. He joined the group in September 2023 and his PhD is funded by the Engineering and Sciences Research Council and DB group (Holdings) Ltd. 

He obtained his degree in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield, and completed his masters at the University of New Mexico, where he wrote his dissertation on ligand to ligand charge transfers and photodecay mechanisms in photoluminescent transition metal complexes. His PhD is focused on the development and understanding of the chemistry and engineering low carbon alkali activated cements, with the ultimate goal of his research being to optimise cement formulations for enhanced sustainability, performance and durability.
