Understanding your programme
Understand your course to know what you have to choose
Throughout your time at SEAS, you will hear people talk about "Studies" and "Language" modules - this is the way that we differentiate between the two types of modules we offer.
"Language" modules, somewhat predictably are the Chinese, Japanese and Korean language modules that we offer to specialist students (those studying a language focussed degree) and non-specialist students (those studying a language as a small part of their degree, or studying a secondary language as part of their degree, for example BA Chinese with Japanese Studies).
"Studies" means those modules which look at the culture, society and history of East Asia.
All students need to register for a number of modules. In each year you must study a total of 120 credits (normally 60 per semester). Each module is usually worth 10 or 20 credits.
Some will be compulsory (Core Modules).
You may also have to choose modules directly related to your degree (Approved Modules)
Finally you are likely to have a choice which complement your degree - these may SEAS modules or be offered by other departments (Guided Module Choice).
You can start choosing your modules from Monday 4th September.
If you change your mind about your choice, don't worry! At the start of each semester, there is a three week window where you can make amendments to any of your optional modules - this is called the Add/Drop Period, and will be open from 18th September to 6th October.
But first! you will have to find out what the requirements are for your degree. Click on your degree programme regulations to see the options available to you.
