Each year a number of students want to change their degree course during or at the end of Level 1. University regulations do allow transfers to another degree course after completing Level 1 or Level 2 or exceptionally at another time, with the permission of the Faculty Board. Before any transfer to another degree course is allowed though, you must have satisfied the pre-requisites for that course.
If you are registered for a Psychology degree and you want to transfer to another course, then you should speak to the Admissions Tutor in the School into which you wish to transfer. He or she will be able to advise you and should be able say whether that School will accept your transfer.
If you do decide to leave Psychology, please let your Academic Tutor or your Level Student Support Officer know in plenty of time. You will also need to complete an Application to Change Programme of Study form, obtainable online from the Student Administration Services Office or from any of our School's Undergraduate Student Support Officers, carrying signatures from both the releasing and accepting Schools.
The person who signs for all transfers INTO the School of Psychologyis the Level 1 Student Support Officer, but you will also need a signature from your Academic Tutor.
If you want to change to Psychology as your main degree course then please bear in mind that every year more people want to join the course than leave it, and therefore, we may not have enough spare places at the end of Level 1 to satisfy everyone who wants to transfer in.
In order to be fair to everyone wanting to transfer, we try to take into account people's background ('A' Levels, relevant experience, etc.), attendance on the course (remember that complete attendance at tutorials and labs is expected), standard of work (both during the year and also in the Level 1 exams), and tutors' reports.
During this process the Level 1 Deputy Senior Tutor will likely contact you to schedule a meeting and discuss your expectations of the course and provide extra information if necessary.
We have to wait until the end of the year when we have all the exam results and know how many people are leaving Psychology and the number of places available. We will try and let people know whether they can join the course shortly after the examination results are released.
